Fitness Blogger Reveals What Eating More And Cutting Out Cardio Really Does To Your Body

We all know what we should do when it comes to our fitness: eat well and move more. Although, it would appear that is changing. Not that many of us will have noticed, as we chomp our way through a multipack of crisps and a ‘made to share’ bag of Hershey’s Kisses.

Fitness fanatics are now beginning to encourage us to eat more (yay!), so long as it is healthy, nutritious and balanced with a routine of weights (boo!). It would appear that running is no longer an approved form of exercise and a simple salad is a thing of the past. With Instagram over saturated with fitness influencers, there is an endless stream of posts promoting weightlifting, alongside photographs of stacked protein pancakes dripping with delicious chocolate sauce. So, what is the catch? Can weightlifting really be the answer to our dream bikini body? It’s time to investigate… Meet Rebecca Catherine Smith, an Instagram fitness guru with nearly 50,000 followers and a huge advocate for weightlifting. Smith swapped her cardio heavy exercise routine for weights, despite the stigma that weightlifting is “just for the boys”. Quickly, she saw a remarkable difference to her body and quickly became addicted. Sharing her dramatic transformation on Instagram, Smith alerted her followers to the benefits of weightlifting, enticing them in with the caption: “Cardio & calorie restriction VS Weight training & all da food”, before penning a long paragraph on why cardio is not a girls best friend, in which she writes: “Stop slaving away trying to burn ‘calories’ on the treadmill and start to build your body to be the strongest it can be!” But, Smith isn’t lying when she claims to eat “all da food”. Not only does she share photographs of her toned body on Instagram, but also snaps of her meals, which she makes herself. They are guaranteed to get your tastebuds tingling… Smith proudly shared two photographs of her body, one maintained by cardio, the other by weights. The difference is clear, something Smith emphasised with her caption:

“It infuriates me how still so many girls think the second you pick up a dumbbell or protein shake you’ll suddenly become the hulk. changing my training from cardio to weights changed me completely inside & out and each to their own but I personally don’t think I’ve made my body look at all manly in my past year and a bit of weight training!”

In another before and after photograph, Smith compares her body in two photographs taken 18 months apart. Explaining how she achieved such a toned torso, Smith explains:

“On the left, probably about 18 months ago, was completely restricting myself to probably under 1000 cals a day & would go to gym ~ HATE IT ~ and just run on the treadmill for hours *cardio bunny* as people seem to call it

On the right, taken recently and been attempting to eat 2000+ cals every day (it’s harder than you think!!) & changed my training up completely to strength training 4-5 times a week, with ZERO cardio in the past 6 months & I absolutely love what I do & how I train now and I think it’s safe to say I’m SO much more of a positive & motivated person”

Indulgent meals are another element of Smith’s routine, which she proudly shares online. Heaped pancakes oozing with chocolate sauce regularly feature on her Instagram timeline, surrounded by a peppering of exotic salads and avocado, of course. Explaining how she can tuck away such mammoth meals, Smith writes:

“Starting weight training made me realise food is fuel and I need LOTS of it to get the best out of my training the amount I eat has honestly trebled since I picked up lifting and I absolutely love it  there’s no restricting and there’s no guilt in indulging in treats once in a while because what better way to fuel a sesh”

Building a body on weights and nutritious snacks is certainly a labour of love, but one that Smith is proud to showcase, whilst also acknowledging that it is hard work. “Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was that booty,” she comically, and aptly, writes on Instagram. However, before you attempt to sculpt yourself a body like Smith’s (or maybe you already have one!), watch this video which details exactly what NOT to do when lifting weights…
